De 267 meter hoge heuvel ligt ongeveer 5 km ten noordoosten van Ballybunion. De top herbergt enkele zendmasten en een triangulatiestation. De heuvel is in de verte zichtbaar en de top biedt een goed uitzicht op de Shannon-estuarium en een groot deel van de Atlantische kustlijn van Kerry.
De moerassen rond de Knockanore worden genoemd in The Irish Naturalist en worden als zeer interessant beschouwd vanuit het perspectief van de entomoloog.
