Knockboy is de hoogste piek in de Shehy-bergketen en de hoogste berg in County Cork, met zijn top die gedeeld wordt met County Kerry. Het is de 104e hoogste piek in Ierland.
De berg is samengesteld uit zandsteen die is afgezet in de Devoon-periode, die vervolgens is opgetild om een bergketen te vormen, voordat het door gletsjers tijdens de laatste ijstijd werd geërodeerd tot zijn huidige vorm.
