Ötzi, die na 5300 jaar perfect geconserveerd uit een dooiende gletsjer tevoorschijn kwam en nu bij -6°C in het Südtiroler Archäologiemuseum (www.iceman.it) te zien is, ontwikkelde zich van wetenschappelijke sensatie tot celebrity. Het is ook niet niks wat hem overkwam: door onbekenden vermoord bovenop een bergtop, en pas in 1991 ontdekt door Duitse klimmers, die dachten met een verongelukte collega te maken te hebben. Een journalist bedacht voor 'de man uit het ijs' de koosnaam Ötzi, naar de vindplaats in de Ötztaler Alpen.
