Het Groothertogdom Luxemburg is een constitutionele erfmonarchie met een parlementair systeem, gelegen tussen België, Duitsland en Frankrijk. Groothertog Henri I is de staatshoofd sinds oktober 2000.
Het maakt deel uit van de Europese Unie sinds 25 maart 1957. Het is daarmee een van de oprichters. Samen met België en Nederland vormt het de Benelux.
