Eurostat is een directoraat-generaal van de Europese Unie, belast met het opmaken van statistieken. Het bestaat onder die naam sedert 1959 en is gehuisvest even buiten Luxemburg-stad, in Kirchberg in het Groothertogdom. Eurostat is binnen de Europese Commissie en in samenwerking met het Comité voor statistische informatie belast met de uitvoering van het communautaire statistische programma. Dat behelst de ontwikkeling van een geheel van normen en methoden en technieken voor de productie van onpartijdige, betrouwbare, relevante en kosteneffectieve statistieken en de verspreiding ervan ten behoeve van de diverse internationale instellingen, de regeringen van de lidstaten, de sociale en economische factoren, de academische kringen en het grote publiek.
