Boxbergen is altijd een machtige havezate geweest en werd in 1344 voor het eerst genoemd als bezit van Hendrik van Dorth.De relatie tussen de eigenaren en de stad Deventer met name, was niet altijd optimaal.Het huis is verschillende keren verwoest en wederopgebouwd. Na meerder malen van eigenaar gewisseld te zijn is de huidige eigenaar de familie Nuy, die het inrichtte voor haar stoeterij, De landerijen worden beheerd door stichting IJssellandschap.
