In de velden rondom Slenaken vind je aan de oppervlakte lichtbruine stenen. Dat zijn vuurstenen, cherten of ''flintstones'' die uit de onderliggende krijtlagen zitten. Naast het feit dat je er vuur kan mee maken (ruik even aan de stenen als je ze op elkaar slaat) werden ze ook gebruikt om werktuigen zoals messen, bijlen en pijlpinten van te maken in de prehistorie.
