Een uniek terrassenlandschap, geologisch gezien uiterst bijzonder voor Nederland. De terrassen zijn in de loop van tienduizenden jaren ontstaan door inschuringen van de Maas en verschuivingen in de aardkorst. Dit gebeurde langs drie breuklijnen die door het gebied lopen. Dwars op de terrassen voeren de Roode Beek en de Boschbeek het water af naar de rivier de Roer. De Meinweg is het enige gebied in Nederland waar de adder nog voorkomt.
