Markelo is een Nederlands dorp in Twente, provincie Overijssel. Het behoort tot de gemeente Hof van Twente. Tot de gemeentelijke herindeling van 1 januari 2001 vormde het dorp de hoofdplaats van de gelijknamige gemeente Markelo.
De naam Markelo betekent bos dat een afscheiding of grens aangeeft . Het landschap rondom het dorp is glooiend tot een hoogte van ruim 40 meter.
