Description

Het Kasteel Schaloen of Chaloen dateert minimaal uit 1381. Door de Spaanse-Nederlandse oorlog in de zestiende eeuw werd het kasteel bijna geheel verwoest maar kon in 1656 weer herbouwd worden. In 1894 is het kasteel door architect P.J.H. Cuypers grondig gerestaureerd in een neogotische stijl. Het kasteel is geheel opgetrokken uit mergelsteen.

Het slot heeft tegenwoordig niet meer de functie die het vroeger had, maar de stallen en bijgebouwen zijn nu in gebruik als hotel. Het kasteel zelf is niet te bezichtigen.
