Ameland ; Standaardfries: It Amelân) is vanaf het westen gerekend het vierde bewoonde Nederlandse waddeneiland en behoort tot de provincie Friesland. Het gehele eiland valt onder één gemeente, die dezelfde naam draagt. Het waddeneiland, en daarmee de gemeente, telt 3.743 inwoners en heeft een totale oppervlakte van 268,50 km², waarvan 59,11 km² land en 209,39 km² water .
