Rottum in de gemeente Het Hogeland is een van oorsprong radiaal wierdedorp, gelegen tussen Kantens en Usquert. Het ligt in de Nederlandse provincie Groningen in de historische landstreek Oosterambt van het Ommeland Hunsingo. De plaats telt 90 inwoners .Rottum is de naamgever van Rottumeroog , omdat het voormalige klooster Juliana de belangrijkste eigenaar van dit eiland was. Het is niet bekend of Rottumerplaat naar het dorp of naar Rottumeroog is vernoemd. De gehuchten Helwerd, Holwinde en Bethlehem vallen ook onder het dorp Rottum.
