Deze zes herenhuizen werden in 1907 gebouwd naar een ontwerp van architect C.J.M. van Duijne in Overgangsarchitectuur. Op nummer 56 bevond zich ooit Pension Walda waar zich een deel van het aangrijpende verhaal van Rika van der Lans en Waldemar Nods afspeelt. Dit verhaal is beschreven in het boek "Sonny Boy" van Annejet van der Zijl, dat ook is verfilmd. De opnamen vonden echter niet hier plaats, maar in het naastgelegen Hotel Boulevard (nummer 58) dat voor de gelegenheid werd voorzien van nummer 56.
