De stationsgebouwen gebouwd langs de spoorlijn Maastricht - Kerkrade, zoals deze in Schin op Geul, maar ook die van Voerendaal en Klimmen-Ransdaal en Maastricht, zijn veelal gebouwd door dezelfde architect, George van Heukelom.
Het
stationsgebouw van Schin op Geul stamt uit 1913, toen de mijnindustrie de aanleg van spoorwegen een enorme impuls gaf. In het station van Schin op Geul zijn de originele houten zitbanken en lambrisering in de voormalige wachtruimte voor de 1e klas nog te bewonderen.
Station Schin op Geul is een zogenaamd vorkstation. De lijn vanuit Maastricht vertakt hier richting Kerkrade en richting Simpelveld. Op het traject Schin op Geul - Simpelveld rijdt een oude stoomtrein, de Miljoenenlijn.
