Natuurgebied de Rucphense heide.
Vroeger waren grote delen van de gemeente Rucphen bedekt met veenlagen, die moerassig en ontoegankelijk waren.
Bepalend voor de ontginning en de ontwikkeling van het gebied is de turfwinning geweest.
Later, in de Middeleeuwen, was er grote vraag naar de brandstof turf.
Hierdoor ontstond er een turfindustrie en West-Brabant was één van de eerste gebieden in Noordwest Europa waar men met een bedrijfsmatige aanpak turf ging winnen.
Na 1700 kwam er geleidelijk een einde aan de turfindustrie.
Op de voormalige turfwinninglocaties werden in productiebossen en landgoederen aangelegd.
