Het stadspark Oudorperhout wordt doorkruist door wandel- en fietspaden en waterlopen. Er groeien bijzondere planten zoals de rietorchis en ratelaar en ook vind je er veel weidevogels zoals grutto’s en kieviten. In het park zijn restanten van twee kastelen te vinden en er staan nog vier van de traditioneel zes strijkmolens. Deze molens werden tijdens de drooglegging van Heerhugowaard gebruikt om het overtollige polderwater naar het noorden af te voeren. De term ‘strijkmolen’ is ontstaan door de geringe opvoerhoogte, waarbij het water werd ‘afgestreken’.
