Jamfabriek ‘De Betuwe’ zocht in 1935 naar nieuwe promotie mogelijkheden voor hun producten. Zo werd het mannetje met een dik frambozenlijf en armen en beentjes van rode bessen verzonnen. Op de geboortegrond van Flipje, aan de Grotebrugse Grintweg waar het fabriekscomplex van jamfabriek ‘De Betuwe’ stond, staat nu een complete woonwijk. Het beeldje van Flipje is gemaakt door de Utrechtse beeldhouwster Else Rignalda en werd in 1993 onthuld. Flipje draagt bij bijzondere evenementen andere kleren. Het figuurtje heeft inmiddels al diverse kostuums.
