Aan de rand van boswachterij Gieten-Borger, midden op de Drentse Hondsrug, liggen zwemvijver ’t Nije Hemelriek en zwemplas Gasselterveld. Het water is er azuurblauw, het zand helder wit en de bomen groener dan groen. Je waant je er in een land als Italië.
Het grootste water is het Gasselterveld. Tot 2013 werd er hier zand afgegraven en ontstond er een kuil van 50 meter diep. Toen gestopt werd met afgraven, vulde de afgraving zich met water, dat door de witte zandbodem, azuurblauw kleurt. Sinds 2017 is het Gasselterveld een zwemplas met een officieel recreatiedeel in het noorden.
