Ze is gelegen aan de Karspeldreef ten zuiden van metrostation Kraaiennest. De moskee is gesticht door de in Suriname geboren Muhammad Junus Gaffar en ontworpen door architect Paul Haffmans. De moskeegangers zijn voornamelijk Surinaamse Hindoestanen en Pakistanen, maar ook Afghanen en Indiërs.
De moskeeruimte is naar Mekka gericht. Het gebouw is opgetrokken in een betonskelet. Haffmanns combineerde een traditioneel moskeegebouw met moderne bouwmaterialen.
