Je route gaat van start bij De Hoofdwacht, een historisch plekje in de historische kern van Brielle (ook Den Briel genoemd). De grotendeels zeventiende-eeuwse vesting van Brielle is een van de best bewaard gebleven verdedigingswerken in Nederland. Brielle werd op 1 april 1572 door de Geuzen ingenomen op de Spanjaarden. Waarna de uitspraak ‘Op 1 april verloor Alva zijn bril’ cultuurgoed werd. Historisch Museum Den Briel is een echte aanrader om je bezoek van start te gaan. Je leert hier meer over de historie van de vestingstad. In de sfeervolle straatjes lijkt de geschiedenis stil te hebben gestaan. Vanaf het water heb je een prachtig zicht op de vestinggordel van het vermaarde stadje Brielle. Je komt ook langs het Vliegend Hert, een korenmolen uit 1862.
