Praia de Mira ligt aan de Atlantische Oceaan en aan een achterliggende lagune. Het is de badplaats van de gemeente, op 7 km van de hoofdplaats Mira.
Sinds 1812 wordt Praia de Mira genoemd als een plaats met vaste woonhuizen van lokale vissers. Tot in de jaren '60 zijn vrijwel alle van de oorspronkelijke, traditionele houten constructies vervangen door de huidige stenen huizen, met uitzondering van de kapel en het huidige museum van de plaats.
