De Misericórdia-kerk werd gebouwd in de 16e eeuw, vermoedelijk begonnen tussen 1560 en 1562. Het onderging verschillende verbouwingen tot wat we vandaag zien.
De hoofdgevel, in renaissance-florentijnse stijl, dateert uit 1562. Op de zijgevel, boven het portaal, staat een replica van de Primitieve Beeldhouwgroep van de Visitatie uit 1660.
Binnen valt het monumentale vergulde altaarstuk van Marceliano de Araújo op, gebouwd tussen 1735 en 1740. En een doek van de patroonheilige door José Lopes uit 1736.
