De dam is in feite een groot irrigatieproject dat in 1989 werd geïnitieerd door Koning Bhumibol Adulyadej. Het waterreservoir is een bron van water voor huishoudens, fabrieken en boeren in de Pasakvallei; en een buffer om overstromingen in het Pa Sak-bekken te beheersen en de waterbeheerproblemen in de lagere provincies en het grootstedelijk gebied van Bangkok te verminderen. De opslag van water in het reservoir begon op 15 juni 1998 en de inauguratie van het Pasak - Jolasit-project vond plaats op 25 november 1999. Het hele gebied is nu een belangrijke toeristische attractie.
