Aan het Psychology Department van de universiteit van Berkeley onderzocht psycholoog George Stratton wat het effect was van het feit dat het beeld in ons oog opgekeerd geprojecteerd is. Daarom maakte hij een toestel dat het beeld op zijn hoofd zette voor hij het zag. Daar liep hij enekel dagen mee rond. Sommige bronnen beweren dat hij na een tijd het beeld gewoon rechtop zag staan maar dat blijkt niet waar te zijn. Wel was hij in staat om zijn bewegingen toch te coördineren met wat hij zag.
