You are here next to the classroom of the Nielse Canoe Club De Rupelsneppen, with the Beton Coeck Company behind it. Until 1856, there was a stone windmill here to press oil. It was established in 1699
by Jan Kinnie, on the remnants of the former Fort De Sterre, right by the Rupel. And here the legend of ‘t Kennieke takes place, better known as “The ghost of the Cement Factory”... Listen and shiver along, “oep z’n Niels”.
This story is part of the Sound Waves cycling route of HOOGTIJ! Festival in River Park Scheldevallei and Tourism Rupelstreek.
