With this route you cycle through the area where archaeologists already made all kinds of finds from the time of the primeval farmers a century ago, but where new discoveries are still being made.

For example, archaeological finds tell us that the primeval farmers usually lived high and dry on top of the plateaus. But here in this area, that wasn't always the case... Today, this region looks completely different from the time of the primeval farmers. At that time, the Meuse meandered freely through the landscape everywhere. And, of course, the limit wasn't there at all. Just like the Netherlands and Belgium...

This cycling loop therefore does not adhere to the national borders, because you cycle through both the Netherlands and Belgium. The ferry between Geulle (NL) and Uikhoven (BE) takes you across the Maas for free. Along the way you cycle through green areas and often along the water of the Albert Canal or the Maas in the Maasvallei River Park. You will also visit the historic center of Maastricht during this route.
