After the long descent into the valley of the Arc River, you first follow the Arc for a while. The first climb on your route is the Col de la Madeleine, which is done over the alternative side via the low-traffic D76. The road surface is not in the best condition, but quite manageable in the climbing direction. The last kilometers to the top are via the main road.

At the top, you turn around and descend the Col de la Madeleine via the clearly busier main road.
Note: you do not descend all the way to the valley of the Arc River because you will climb the Col de Chaussy. The climb is a very low-traffic road over a forest path that was only fully paved around 2015 (because the 19th stage in the Tour de France in 2015 descended this side).

Then you descend again to the valley of the Arc River via Montvernier, and after that, you will face the final climb of Col du Mollard with its approximately 40 hairpin bends.
