Description by the author

The route begins in Hünxe, the village in the green. South of Hünxe, there are hills with elevations of up to 40 meters. The route in this very natural and forested area passes over five ascents, including the Genseberg, the Brömmenkamp (note: a stretch of 200 meters of poorer road surface just after the summit), Zur Alten Mühle, Minnekenstege, and the Haardtberg. The route then crosses the Wesel-Datteln Canal to bike past Schloss Gartrop and its watermill. The route gradually leaves the natural area via Gahlen. The village of Schermbeck is bypassed, and via Bricht, the path leads into the Dämmerwald. Around the Dämmerwald, it is slightly hilly (elevation differences of up to 20 meters). The route continues to Marienthal, known for a large monastery. It then goes over the Brüner Höhen, an elevation difference of up to 35 meters along the road. This route involves two climbs. Finally, the route goes back through the Drevenacker Dunes (Drevenack is completely bypassed) and leads directly through the small old fishing village of Krudenburg with its charming center and cobblestone street. Finally, the Lippe and the Wesel-Datteln Canal are crossed to return to Hünxe.

For each ascent on this route, 9% is marked (and two ascents even go up to 12%), only the last ascent (Bergstraße to Brünen) remains at 5%. The roads on this route are very quiet in terms of traffic, and the area is very rich in nature. Sometimes you end up on main roads with a bike path alongside, but this is at most over a distance of 1 km and especially when crossing the Lippe (overall, the route runs 5 km on bike paths along the main roads). A single internal road has less asphalt, but the roads are generally of good quality (sometimes a transition between side roads at an intersection or T-junction can have somewhat poorer road surfaces).
