From River to Hill

The territory of Asti, formed by the river erosion acted on the original marine deposit plateau above, is characterized by the wide valley of the Tanaro into which flows the network of tributaries; the hills that separate them allow us to read its geological history.
“From the river to the hill” is an itinerary that ranges from wooded ridges to cultivated valleys, allowing the discovery of small towns perched on the great river (Azzano and Rocca d’Arazzo) or nestled along it (Rocchetta Tanaro) and finally realities not linked to the river (Belveglio, Cortiglione, and Montaldo Scarampi).
The route therefore offers various points of interest both geological-naturalistic and historical-cultural, represented by often fossiliferous cliffs overhanging still natural environments, and by the small historic centers with Baroque architecture that are gradually encountered along the ups and downs of the itinerary, always far from the busy main roads.
