At the place where the Kilsdonk mill was built, the Aa branched into a northern and southern arm, making the mill stand like it was on an island. At that time also known as; at the Beugt, named after the bend in the Aa.
On the right bank of the Aa, people have lived for a long time in various centers, including Hoog and Laag Beugt, Heeswijk, and Dinther. The seventeenth-century house Zwanenburg is located in the immediate vicinity of the mill and also has a rich history. Over the centuries, the Kilsdonk mill has experienced various periods of glory, decay, and reconstruction.
