En la margen izquierda del Yser, territorio de Kaaskerke, doscientos metros más allá del Hoge Brug, se encuentra el memorial conocido como el Calvario. Fue erigido en memoria de los soldados aliados que lucharon en el Frente Yser durante la 'Gran Guerra'.
Aunque se pensó principalmente como un monumento religioso, también contenía una respuesta, una reacción a las peregrinaciones de Yser y la planificación de la Torre Yser, un monumento a los flamencos caídos en el Yser. El Monte Calvario se convirtió en un testimonio perdurable de las tensiones ideológicas que prevalecieron durante el período de entreguerras y la interferencia del clero en la construcción de monumentos de guerra después de la Primera Guerra Mundial.
El monumento fue inaugurado en septiembre de 1928.
