En la Edad Media, Dinant era una ciudad rica y poderosa que muy pronto construyó una inmensa muralla que requirió la construcción de numerosas torres y puertas . La muralla de la ciudad ya se menciona en 1239 g .
El sitio fortificado de Dry-les-Wennes fue construido en el siglo XIII .
Al norte de la ciudad, en el sitio de Dry-les-Wennes, las murallas se extienden a lo largo de la rue Saint-Pierre al nivel del Athénée Royal y terminan en la parte superior del valle de la rue Saint-Jacques. Se extienden de norte a sur en el centro del lado derecho del valle, siguiendo el relieve de la roca. Los restos consisten en un muro perimetral continuo, de 450 m de largo y señalizado a intervalos regulares; una gran torre heptagonal (Torre Taravisée) y cuatro torres muy bien conservadas.
