Deze pittoreske toren behoort tot ons nationaal erfgoed. Sinds 1955 domineert hij het landschap. Je bent pas in Bredene geweest, als je hem hebt gezien. Met zijn iconische look charmeert hij van mijlenver. En je kunt hem zelfs beklimmen.
Door de jaren heen onderging hij verschillende restauraties. In 1977 werden de faiencetegels ingeruild voor bakstenen en in 1994 kreeg de mantel zijn blauw-witte strepen. Zijn rode dakje maakt hem extra sympathiek.
In 1995 kreeg hij ook nog een balustrade én tien grote ramen die je een grandioos panoramisch uitzicht bieden. Je komt op ooghoogte met de zeemeeuwen. Op het gelijkvloers is er nog een permanente tentoonstelling over waterwinning en over de rol van water in ons dagelijks leven. Een topattractie om onderweg even mee te pikken.
De watertoren is te bezoeken samen met een gids. Deze bezoeken zijn te reserveren via de balie dienst toerisme, Kapelstraat 76 te Bredene.
