Het terrein van de voormalige kaoliengroeves van Marcognac werd in 2002 geclassificeerd als industrieel archeologisch historisch monument. Het is de enige steengroeve in Frankrijk waar gebouwen die dateren uit de 19e eeuw (woningen, droogschuren, smederij, stallen, broodoven, enz.) nog steeds overeind staan en getuigen van een activiteit die 200 jaar heeft geduurd. De site werd in 1993 aangekocht door de gemeente Saint Yrieix-la-Perche en in 2000 overgenomen door de Communauté de Communes. In 2010 werd de vereniging Marcognac Terre de Porcelaine opgericht om deze verlaten site te redden en nieuw leven in te blazen. Het parcours is geleidelijk ontstaan door schenkingen van voorwerpen en archieven van verschillende mensen. De gepassioneerde leden van de vereniging leiden rondleidingen, gedocumenteerd door getuigenissen, beelden en voorwerpen uit die tijd.
