De gemeente telt meer dan 400 inwoners en bestaat uit MATTON, een dorp verspreid op de bodem van een kleine vallei die wordt afgewaterd door een forellenbeek, en het gehucht CLEMENCY. Het bos van Banel, dat het dorp scheidt van de Belgische grens, was de ontmoetingsplaats van een belangrijk Frans-Belgisch maquis. Die kwam tot een dramatisch einde in juni 44 nadat de Duitsers aanvielen.
