De zeeslag bij Navarino werd hier uitgevochten op 20 oktober 1827, tijdens de Griekse Onafhankelijkheidsoorlog (1821-1832) in de baai van Navarino. Een gecombineerde Ottomaanse en Egyptische armada werd vernietigd door een gecombineerde Britse, Franse en Russische zeemacht. Het is opmerkelijk omdat het de laatste grote zeeslag in de geschiedenis was die volledig met zeilschepen werd uitgevochten. De geallieerde schepen waren beter bewapend dan hun Egyptische en Ottomaanse tegenstanders en hun bemanningen waren beter getraind, wat bijdroeg aan een volledige overwinning.
