Molenstede ist bekannt für sein reiches Vereinsleben. Der untere Teil der Figur "Die Guten Leute von Moelstede" verweist auf die Legende, dass die Einwohner von Molenstede die Marienstatue von Diest aus der Demer fischten, während sie aufrecht gegen die Strömung trieb. Dies war der Beginn der Unserer Lieben Frau Gilde, der ersten Vereinigung von Molenstede. Die Gilde durfte die Statue während des jährlichen Umzuges von Diest tragen. Der obere Teil der Figur – eine gesellige Runde am Tisch mit einem frischen Bier – ist ein Seitenblick auf das aktuelle Vereinsleben.
