Karel van de Woestijne was born on March 10, 1878, at Sint-Lievensstraat 348, now Sint-Lievenspoortstraat 264, "a wide, empty, pale street" ("Paidia"). He was the eldest of the four sons of coppersmith Alexander Joannes and Antigona Sielbo.
During the 1960 Book Fair, Miel Kersten unveiled an Arduin commemorative stone for the Catholic East Flemish Writers on Sunday, March 28, carved by Volckaert from Ghent: "In this house, the poet Karel van de Woestijne was born on 10-3-1878."
