Avantis, fully Avantis European Science and Business Park, is a 'cross-border' business park on the border of the municipalities of Heerlen and Aachen. About 40 hectares are available on the site for various companies.
At the end of the 1990s, the municipalities of Heerlen and Aachen entered into a partnership to realize plans for an industrial area that would be located on both Dutch and German territory. The most suitable location for this project was an open agricultural area near the village of Bocholtz, close to the intersection of the highways A4, A76, N281, and Buitenring Parkstad Limburg. From the year 2001, the site was arranged in such a way that companies could settle there, although only for half of the complete plan.
