Avantis, el completo Avantis European Science and Business Park, es un parque empresarial 'transfronterizo' en la frontera de los municipios de Heerlen y Aken. En el terreno hay aproximadamente 40 hectáreas disponibles para diferentes empresas.
A finales de los años 90 del siglo XX, los municipios de Heerlen y Aken firmaron un acuerdo de cooperación para llevar a cabo planes para un área empresarial que estaría ubicada tanto en territorio neerlandés como alemán. La ubicación más adecuada para este proyecto era una zona agrícola abierta cerca del pueblo de Bocholtz, cerca de la intersección de las carreteras A4, A76, N281 y Buitenring Parkstad Limburg. A partir del año 2001, el terreno se organizó de manera que las empresas pudieran establecerse allí, aunque solo para la mitad del plan completo.
