Over the centuries, the area 'Gat van den Ham' has been subject to changes by nature and man. The current creek system is a remnant of land reclamation in the 16th century. In order to improve nature, agriculture, water storage and cultural history, a number of changes have been made in recent years, such as the creation of new nature and marshy areas around the creeks. In addition, pieces of agricultural land have been added to the forest.
