Last update: 30-Oct-2016. An extra loop has been added in the Brachterwald, giving you a nice view of the heathland in the Brachterwald.

You cycle to Neer where you go via the bicycle ferry Neer - Rijkel to the other side of the Maas (note: a few hundred meters after the ferry is unpaved road). Via Asselt and Boukoul it goes to the border crossing over the old connecting road between Elmpt and Roermond. Due to the construction of the A52, this old connecting road is now very quiet. Via this road you climb up the moraine that lies here on the border with the Netherlands.
Inside you go to Brüggen, a town with a beautiful castle. From Brüggen to Born it goes 400 m along a busier road. Then you cycle towards the Brachterwald: on the southern side you have to go through a turnstile that also easily fits 1 bike. On the northern side you leave the Brachterwald via a game grid / cage construction where you can pass with your bike. The Brachterwald used to be an ammunition depot of the English, which is why wide asphalted roads run through the area here. Then you go through the woods via the town of Bracht to Witte Stein, where you enter the Netherlands again. Via the ferry Beesel - Kessel you cross the Maas. You then cycle to Panningen, Egchel and Beringe. After Beringe you cross the Deurnesch Canal via nature reserve Het Kwakvors (100 meters unpaved road, easy to cycle). At the back of Meijel you go to Neerkant and back to Heusden.

Please note: the Neer-Rijkel bicycle ferry is only in service daily from 10:00 am in the months of May to September. From Easter to the end of April and in October, the bicycle ferry is only in operation on weekends. In case of early departure, it is therefore necessary to follow the track clockwise (so first via Reuver to Brüggen, then via Elmpt and the bicycle ferry back to Heusden).
