La línea de ferrocarril Bruselas-Luxemburgo fue inaugurada en 1858. En 1873, los Ferrocarriles del Estado belga se convirtieron en propietarios de la red ferroviaria y se acondicionó una nueva estación, reemplazando el edificio de madera y piedra que hasta entonces albergaba a los viajeros. La estación fue construida en piedra caliza de Lorena y piedra azul según los planos del arquitecto provincial VAN DE WIJNGAERT (1884-1885) y luego se acondicionaron sus alrededores, que incluyen entre otras notables construcciones de estilo Art Nouveau y el modesto barrio de los ferroviarios (Schoppach). La avenida de la Estación fue completamente renovada en 2002-2003. La estatua de Mercurio es obra de la escultora Bettina SCHOLL-SABBATINI.
