La présence de l’eau est une valeur ajoutée pour une ville. Anvers est naturellement gâtée à cet égard avec l’Escaut, ce qui ne l’a pas empêché de créer d’autres plans d’eau, comme à la IJzerlaan depuis 2018. Le canal relie deux bassins et ses quais sont très appréciés par les promeneurs en quête de tranquillité.
La IJzerlaan est située dans le quartier anversois de Dam. Le quartier n’est pas grand mais présente une belle diversité. Anciens bâtiments industriels, maisons individuelles, abattoirs côtoient depuis quelque temps quantité de cafés et restaurants, notamment sur la Damplein.
