Originally, Lake Offlume was used as a mining area for sand and gravel for decades. Afterwards, it was gradually opened to the public. Today, following its redesign as part of the Regional Project in 2004, the lake offers an exclusive yet natural atmosphere in the shadow of former industrial ruins.
With its beach promenade and a wide bathing beach, it is the perfect destination for tourists from all over NRW, as well as locals from Neuenkirchen and the surrounding area. From the beach or the terraces of the lakeside café, almost the entire lake can be surveyed. From here, one can also gaze into the distance, into the expanses of the Münsterland over fields and meadows.
