Gasterij Kruisberg

In the dunes near Heemskerk, in the shelter of a large parabolic dune, stands the Kruisberg farm. The history of this dune farm dates back to 1870.

In a bird's-eye view of time, the farm has had many functions and owners: reclamation farm for the reclamation of a wild, unusable and poor dune terrain. Storage area for potatoes and straw and stabling for the horses and machinery. In 1938, the dune terrain and the farm were sold to the province of North Holland, which entrusted the management to PWN. After the war, the farm became a working barn for the foresters who worked in this part of the dune terrain and was given various additional functions, such as hangar for the gliding club and later residence and field laboratory for students.

PWN no longer uses the Kruisberg. A few years ago, the function of a work shed was discontinued. PWN was therefore looking for a new destination for the monumental building, in keeping with nature and recreation, with the identity and appearance of the area. A quiet form of catering has been chosen, a tea house. Ten potential operators came forward, four of them with a business plan.

In the end, we were left and were given the opportunity to transform the Kruisberg into a guesthouse where the monumental character of the Kruisberg remains.
