The old Bergues slaughterhouse was built in 1811 , but rebuilt a century later in 1910-1911 .
It symbolizes the former rich guild of pork butchers with Saint Anthony as their patron. Inside we still find the hooks on which the slaughtered animals were hung as well as the ditch in which the blood was collected. The slaughterhouse was finally closed in 1969.
Since Saturday 11 February 2023, the old slaughterhouse in Bergues (North) has taken on a whole new function. The place has become a brewery that welcomes the public, with a space dedicated to making beer and a space where customers can relax. On the ground we find the canal that was once used to let the blood of animals flow . Now it is only used to let the water flow that is needed to make beer.
Other elements of the old slaughterhouse have been preserved: the hooks on which carcasses were once hung. They were painted red , which contrasts with the white walls and black beams that give the building a modern look.
