La fortezza rinforzata
Il sito del castello, situato su una cresta montuosa e circondato dalla Semois, è in realtà duplice.
Su un primo strapiombo montano svettava un classico tumulo di castello.
Nel 1082 fu costruita una seconda torre del castello da Godfried di Bouillon, che vendette il dominio al vescovo di Liegi prima di partire per la crociata.
Molto più tardi, il castello fu principalmente ridisegnato sotto l'impulso di Vauban, durante l'occupazione francese. Opere difensive avanzate, caserme, un arsenale e un deposito di polvere da sparo sono il risultato di ciò.
Sotto il governo olandese, la torre del castello fu distrutta nel 1824 per far spazio ad altre caserme, ma il terreno militare fu declassato nel 1853.
Diventò infine una popolare attrazione turistica.
