Hoeleden è un comune di Kortenaken, situato lungo la riva destra del Velp. Hoeleden era un comune indipendente fino alla riorganizzazione comunale del 1977. L'origine del toponimo Hoeleden è incerta, ma deriva probabilmente dalla parola olandese arcaica hol, che significa terra con cavità. Sono state scoperte circa tredici varianti del nome del villaggio, le più utilizzate sono Holede, Hoole e Houl.
