Er ist der einzige in Flandern, Baujahr 1862-1863, zerstört 1918 beim Rückzug der Deutschen und schnell wiederhergestellt, um die stark frequentierte Eisenbahnlinie Oudenaarde-Ronse-Leuze wieder befahrbar zu machen. Der Eisenbahntunnel diente während des Zweiten Weltkriegs eine Nacht lang als Schutzraum für Hitler in seinem "Panzerzug". An einem Wintertag im Jahr 1966 rutschte ein Stück des Spichtenberg bis über die Bahngleise, kurz vor dem Eingang des Tunnels, was den Zugverkehr Oudenaarde-Ronse für mehr als ein Jahr unterbrach.
